Volunteer Position: Teacher (In-Person)

Overview
Volunteer teachers form the backbone of Robotics for All's classes. As a teacher, you will be responsible for teaching a group of up to four students the curriculum that is provided to you. We have curricula for in person classes: Early Builders (with LEGO Motors and Pieces for 1st-3rd graders), LEGO Robotics (with LEGO Mindstorms EV3 for 4th-5th graders), mBot (with MakeBlock mot for 6th-7th graders), and Arduino (for 7th-8th graders). You will earn community service hours for the work that you do. Below you will find details about the volunteer position. Tasks
  • Teach a group of up to four elementary school children the curriculum that will be provided to you by Robotics for All
  • Assist the lead instructor in tasks such as classroom management and curriculum development
Time Commitment
  • Teach one weekly, two hour session at a local elementary school
    • Review the curriculum beforehand (approximately ten minutes/class)
    • Stay after class for up to 10 minutes to clean up
  • Teach for the duration of at least one seven-class session 
    • Dates will be provided to you.
  • Optional tasks (curriculum development, outreach, work on the website) outside of teaching may be offered

​Benefits
  • Earn community service hours for time spent in the classroom, transportation to the site, and outside work (if offered and completed)
  • Leading a Robotics for All class will look good on any resume, whether applying for a future internship, job, or college
  • Potential future leadership positions may be offered, including positions on Robotics for All’s Board of Directors
  • Learn valuable leadership skills

Requirements
  • 9th grade in high school or above (exceptions may be made to 8th graders on a case-by-case basis)
  • Ability to obtain proof of tuberculosis clearance before teaching the students 

Beneficial Qualifications
  • Past teaching and/or volunteering experience 
  • Familiarity with any of the platforms used in Robotics for All's curriculum. 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team​
